What features of
the first film are present in the second film?
ü
Men superior than women, women are stuck in
different rooms while men are discussing their “business”.
ü The
hero’s journey thru Vito Corleone, (less focused on Michael’s Hero’s Journey
and more on Vito Corleone)
ü Symbolism
of the colour orange (it’s everywhere!)
ü Shots
through doors and camera angles are the same, make us feel as if we are in the
same room.
ü Public
vs. Private shown through lighting. For
ex. Business is dealt with closed doors
and
ü
American Dream: Vito Corleone tries to achieve
the American Dream through means that can be justified as he wants to provide
for his family. However it isn’t morally
correct.
How does your
understanding of these features affect your viewing experience?
My understanding of these features optimistically
affected my viewing experience. All of
the various aspects that were explored with Mr McGuigan started to naturally
present themselves them to me. I felt as
if the thorough study of The Godfather
really prepared me for individual viewing.
I realized when people started saying “ooo and orange” that we were all
mostly in the same boat...
